3 Ways To Prevent A Spider Infestation

Blog

A spider infestation can often be a major concern for many individuals, mostly due to the fact that many people are terrified of spiders and the fact that some spiders can actually be quite dangerous to have around. Here are three ways to prevent a spider infestation in your home.

Utilize Less Outdoor Lighting

One of the best things that you can do when trying to prevent a spider infestation is to utilize less outdoor lighting. Now, spiders in and of themselves do not really care at all about the lighting around your home, but many of the things that spiders like to eat are attracted to lights.

For example, flies and other insects that are common food sources for spiders do like to gather around lights, which means that spiders will inevitably move into that area because of the sheer amount of food that is available to them. As a result, minimizing the amount of outdoor lighting that you have on the exterior of your home or throughout your yard will minimize the amount of food that a spider will have in proximity to your home.

Clear Or Move Vegetation

Another way to prevent a spider infestation is to simply clear or remove vegetation away from your home. Now, this does not mean that you have to completely get rid of any plants, bushes, or flowers around your house, just that you should move them to another area of your property rather than have them right up against your home.

The reason for this is that those plants and vegetation will provide a good hiding place for spiders to nest in. As a result, the spiders will be able to remain hidden in close proximity to your home and move into your home whenever they need to hunt or feed. In addition, vegetation also attracts a number of other pests that a spider can feed on, which will also attract spiders to your home due to the plentiful food supply.

Eliminate Hiding Spots

Finally, you should try to prevent a spider infestation by taking steps to eliminate as many hiding spots for a spider within your home as possible. The main thing that you should look at doing is eliminating clutter wherever possible, mostly because a crowded closet, cluttered attic, or full basement will provide a plethora of hiding spots for a spider to feel safe when they are laying eggs or simply resting before they venture out to get more food. Periodically cleaning out that clutter will greatly decrease the chances that a spider will be able to successfully hide and create a nest that will result in an infestation within your home.

Making My New Home Safe

After marrying my sweet husband ten years ago, I moved into a fixer-upper. I immediately started making a list of remodeling projects I wold need to complete before the house would be comfortable to live in. For instance, I had to rip out the old linoleum flooring in the kitchen, mud room, and bathrooms. I also had to buy a complete set of new furniture. Only a few days after moving into this house, I also discovered my need to contact a reputable pest control specialist. The house contained huge, disgusting roaches. After a local pest control technician visiting my house, my home was free of potentially health damaging roaches. On this blog, you will discover the latest trends in the pest control industry for successfully removing roaches from a home.
